Hi all,

Summer is awesome isn't it? The sunshine just brightens our spirits. It's also a reminder to me
that Jesus is like the Sunshine. He is always there to help us get thru the dark times,(like the cold, gray winters) and totally wants to shine down on us to feel warm and loved. We have made some deliveries recently that really have touched our hearts. We've had Mom's with overflowing tears of joy, giggling kids with hugs to offer and Fathers whose hearts were touched and a bit of burden taken off their shoulders. The furniture we provide helps families have the time to focus on their jobs and their families, and not on "how are we going to furnish our place"
We feel Blessed to do what we do and we are thankful for each of you who make it happen with:
your furniture donations, your financial donations and just as importantly your prayers.
Blessings to you this day and always, and remember God is always there, even if he's behind that darn gray cloud....lol

Spring is in the air!

We had a taste of Spring weather yesterday while out and about with he NLF activities. It felt so good after months of delivering in snow, ice, and cold temperatures. Everyone we encountered seemed to be in an especially good mood, and I link that to the warmth of the day.

It's been very busy, a lot of deliveries made since the last post and a lot still on our waiting list. We are currently delivering two to three times a week, other days to get caught up on scheduling, administrative stuff and such. We have also taken possession of some office space that our home church, Milford First United Methodist, let us have. So have spent a good deal of time cleaning that out, painting the walls and furnishing it. Will be nice to have a place to meet and get work done. Hoping to get some extra funds in to purchase a laptop computer. That would really streamline things for us.

Since the beginning of 2009, we have completed 31 deliveries of close to 200 items of furniture to those around us in need - and have completed many furniture pickups. Yesterday we delivered to two formerly homeless families that were both in the Interfaith Hospitality Network shelter program. To them we took a lot of items, plus first recipients of a new program we have to give 'housewarming' gifts to. The housewarming gifts are put together by one of our volunteers - Sandy - and consist of a laundry basket full of personal hygiene items, laundry items, light bulbs, tooth brush's, paper towels, etc. We also are going to try to give a new toy to each of the children we encounter - yesterday we distributed four of those toys, much to the delight of the bright eyed children. This was a different delivery for us since both the families lived in the same building...so a bit of a time saver for us. The moms are pictured above with a couple of the kids...seated on one of the dreaded sleeper sofa's we have been moving out.
As always, thanks for your interest in this ministry (non profit now!) If any of you would like to help us financially, please don't hesitate to do so! Checks are to be made out to 'New Life Furniture, Inc' and sent to: New Life Furniture, 541 Main St, Milford OH 45150. Any amount would be very welcome!
Peace!

Monday's Don't Get us Down!

We were out at it last Monday with the deliveries. We actually had one person come to pick up a sleeper sofa and recliner for another referral we had, so that eased our work load a bit. After that, we went to our first delivery. This was to a middle aged woman who was previously homeless for a spell. She moved into her new apartment a couple weeks ago - but as we to often see, she had no furniture at all and had been sleeping on the floor on a small blanket. Otherwise, her apartment was empty except for her clothes and a couple books. She was very happy to see us and an extremely kind and outgoing person. She shared her story with us and we were so very happy to help her in our small way. I have a strong feeling she will do very well for herself. As you can see from the picture, we left one of our famous sleeper sofa's and a recliner. She also received a small dinette set, a television and television stand. Tears, prayers and hugs all around as we left. She offered to have us over for dinner once she gets everything together. We will definitely take her up on her offer!
Our next delivery was to a gentleman who was referred to us by the Center for Respite care. A very quiet man who had also been homeless. As the case with people who find their way to the Center for Respite Care, he had been very ill and was cared for by the angels at the Center. Through them, he was fortunate to find his apartment. To him we left - again - a sleeper sofa and recliner.
We've been delving into the world of grant writing, hope to have our first request completed soon. Thinking of other fund raisers we can manage to keep us on the road and hopefully changing lives for the better. Any thoughts would be welcomed. Just email either me (Tim) or Holly. Until next week - Peace.
